Hildegarde of the Clinton Forest symbolizes the deep roots that bind a family to a cherished place through six generations born and raised in Clinton. Designed and created by family matriarch Naida Thorsen, Hildegarde pays homage to the enchanting nature of Whidbey Island. Her branches represent a family that has flourished on Whidbey, while the flowers, ferns, and moss growing around her base signify a family that will continue to thrive for generations to come. Named in honor of Naida’s daughter, Katherine Hildegarde, and their Scandinavian heritage, Hildegarde reflects the remarkable journey of their ancestors who crossed the Atlantic, came through Ellis Island, and traveled across a great nation to settle on this beautiful island called Whidbey. We invite you to think of the families that bind us, where we continue to grow and belong. Welcome to the special place we call home.
